Sports played by people with disabilities are called parasports. You may have seen the Paralympic Games or the Special Olympics on TV or in real life, which are famous examples of parasports events.
We at #ShareOneWorld believe that inclusivity in sports is extremely important. We want all disabled people to feel like they have a place in sports and exercise by 2030, and know that your actions as Pledge-Makers will help to make this a reality.
Research disability in sports
Find out about disabled sporting heroes and give a presentation about your favourite para-athlete to a parent or carer. To get some inspiration, click here to read about some of the athletes who participate in the Special Olympics.
Ask your school to set up an event
Get the sports teams in your school to work with KEEN or a local charity in your area to arrange a sports day or a match!
Do it yourself! Organise a sports event
Work with a sports club in your school and a KEEN branch or local non-profit to organise regular sports events. Who knows? You might be the link between them!
Improve accessibility
Look into the sports facilities in your school and community. Identify areas where accessibility can be improved and speak to a teacher about it— or campaign for it yourself!
