Young Leaders Program: Fundraising experience

It was a great feeling when people told us that they liked the tea, leading to even more people coming to try, some even getting seconds!

A Bubble Tea Sale for the Young Leaders Programme

Step 1: Brainstorming

There are countless ideas to choose from to fundraise for a great cause! However, this being the first time I have ever thought about doing a fundraiser, I was quite nervous at first. I partnered up with a friend also in the Young Leaders Program and we brainstormed ideas of things to sell. This took longer than we anticipated as we wanted to sell something that is affordable, unique, and not too hard to make. After discussing, we decided to sell bubble tea. In the blink of an eye, we were in business! We purchased milk, brown sugar, tapioca pearls, and black tea and perfected the recipe one week before the scheduled sale. To advertise, we made 2 different types of posters and stuck them up around the school.

Step Two: Sales Day!

On the day of the sale, we were cooking the tapioca pearls and ready to pour the mix of tea and milk together to be sold fresh. We were both a bit intimidated but soon enough, we got the hang of it and started making sales. It was a great feeling when people told us that they liked the tea, leading to even more people coming to try, some even getting seconds! They were priced at one pound per cup with a special offer where discounts can be applied if a large enough order is made at once. Needless to say, hygiene was also very important to us. Gloves and masks were worn at all times.

Finally, after the sale!

This was one of the highlights of the programme and here are my top 5 tips for fundraising! Brainstorming unique ideas, planning where and how to sell the goods, who to sell to, and last but not least, advertising. Although it may seem a bit overwhelming at first, everything will roll out smoothly as it did for us!
